Welcome

Advent Charity Appeal

At St Martin’s we have a target to give 10% of our income to charity. In practical terms that usually means that we facilitate collections on behalf of charities that the church wishes to support.

At the November PCC meeting the Charity sub-Committee recommended three charities to support and this was agreed by the PCC.

The Appeal will be launched on Advent Sunday, 3rd December. All donations to this appeal received by Christmas will be given to the three charities below:

Hope into Action Bromley: A number of Bromley churches together established “Hope into Action Bromley” which is working with Hope into Action UK , aiming to proactively support  individuals trapped in relational poverty and homelessness, through the provision of a home and a support network.

Through the generosity of individuals and churches across the borough they have had two properties made available and with this resource they are aiming to make a small, but significant contribution, towards alleviating the relational poverty that arises from being without a home.

Water Aid: is an international not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation.

Since 1981, they’ve directly reached 28 million people with clean water; 28 million with decent toilets; and 26 million with good hygiene.

They work closely with partners internationally and on the ground in some of the toughest places in the world, to help achieve widespread change. Millions of people have already taken control of their lives and built better futures.

Welcare in Bromley: is a family support charity working with families and children up to the age of 13. The focus of their work is to provide practical and emotional support and advice, individual one-to-one work and group work programmes. They work alongside parents and carers helping them use their strengths and skills to nurture secure and confident children.

Their services are driven by their Christian values, and they work with those of all faiths and none, to help those in greatest need.

In the absence of any request to the contrary, donations will be spread equally between the three charities.

Donations may be made in the normal way, by Bank Transfer to the Church Account using ref ‘Advent Appeal’ or by placing in a Brown Envelope in a Church Plate and adding ‘Advent Appeal’ – Gift Aid may be claimed if you have signed a Gift Aid Form. Or donate securely on line now.
